WHY DOESNT EVERYONE COME TO JESUS FOR SALVATION
John 5:40
Morning Meditation 3/13/2013
“And ye will not come to me that ye might have life.”
The message of salvation is so simple it makes you wonder why all men do not come to Jesus and get their eternal destiny fixed. I will in this meditation give you some scriptural reason why man avoids God’s simple plan of salvation.
BECAUSE OF UNBELIEF
Unbelief is one of the reasons men do not respond to the messages of the gospel. They just do not believe. They live careless lives and do not stop to consider what Jesus says in John 5:40. “And ye will not come to me that ye might have life.”
It is easy to throw the message off and say, “I just don’t believe what Christians are saying.” The scientists say, “that we came through the process of evolution. That makes more sense to me.” So through unbelief they throw off the gospel and live in unbelief.
BECAUSE OF INEXCUSABLE STUBBORNNESS
Man is born with a sense of stubbornness. 1 Samuel 15:23, "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king."
A baby when it is time for his bottle he has a way of letting mother know. And if she doesn’t move fast the crying intensifies. This goes on from the cradle to the grave in one form or another.
Psa 19:13: “Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.”
Repentance is involved in the gospel message. Man doesn’t want anyone telling what he has to do. So in stubbornness he rebels against God and goes on in his sins.
BECAUSE OF PREOCCUPATION WITH OTHER THINGS
Man is busy in his work and in sports and other things. Boating is a going sport today. It is not unusual to have a neighbor pull a boat to a river or a lake on Sunday and spends the day in that worldly pleasure. He is just too busy for Church or spiritual things.
BECAUSE THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY REALLY NEED TO BE SAVED
Have you ever been to a funeral where the preacher said, “the man whose funeral I am preaching today didn’t believe he needed God and he died and went to hell.” It’s too late to pray for him and it is too late for him to pray for himself! There is a very small chance he cried out for God’s mercy with his dying breath. But if he did he didn’t tell anyone about it. That’s not much comfort.
Every man needs to be saved whether he admits it or not. And he must admit his need here and receive the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour. John 8:24, "I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins."
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
