DOST THOU BELIEVE ON THE SON OF GOD

John 9:35

Morning Meditation 2/27/2015

This chapter begins with a compassionate Christ healing a man blind from birth. How did Jesus know that He was blind from birth? Many would speculate and probably be wrong. Just the facts are stated. I am going to read between the lines. I'm going to take my stand that the Son of the Eternal God had caused the blindness in order to heal him and in doing so would authenticate the ministry.

The disciples asked, "Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? This sounds like a bunch of reporters. I listen to the news quite a bit and the news men and women can ask some of the stupidest questions that I have ever heard. Well so much for that. Dost thou believe on the Son of God?"

The man did not have a clue. He ask,: "Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on Him? And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee." The blind man healed of his blindness, said, "Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him."

Back to our text. Dost thou believe in the Son of God? If you do--

THEN YOU HAVE NO DOUBT ABOUT HIS DIVINITY

Matthew 16:16, "And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." This is a truth that turns men away from the gospel message. They may have not understood this doctrine before salvation but the immediate changes that took place in their life compelled them to believe.

Was Jesus really born of a virgin? Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The interpretation of this verse is found in Matthew 1:23, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us." If you do believe on the Son of God--

THEN YOU HAVE REPENTED OF YOUR SINS

Acts 20:21, "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."

Repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action. It will change the direction of your life. There is no one who does not need to repent "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" (Rom 3:23). If one does not see his need for repentance, then he is not under the conviction of sin. To get a profession out of that one would move him further away from God and salvation. A repentant person will not argue about his condition. He knows and he knows God knows.

Repentance is not becoming sin-free. The one who repents is forgiven of all his sins but he still lives in a body that is depraved and when he is saved he enters a life long struggle with the world, the flesh, and the Devil. If you believe on the Son of God--

THEN YOU HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE

John 3:36, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

It is easy to confuse physical life with Spiritual life. When one is saved, his spiritual relationship to God is reestablished. He was alive physically but dead spiritually. The new birth is a resurrection of spiritual life. This resurrection life begins the moment we put our faith in Jesus Christ. Our text says, "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life. . ." This means life without end begins the moment we are saved. When one dies he suddenly realizes that he is not dead. He is very much alive in the presence of the Lord. If you believe in the Son of God--

THEN YOU ARE JUSTIFIED FROM ALL THINGS

Acts 13:38-39, "Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses."

The word "justified" translates "dikaioo" and means, "to render righteous or such he ought to be." The word justified does not mean he is not guilty of a crime or a sin against God. It means that though he has sinned God forgives and declares him righteous in spite of his sins. Rom. 3:24, "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" If you believe on the Son of God--

THEN YOU HAVE VICTORY OVER THE WORLD

1 John 5:4, "For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith."

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
