THE HARVEST

Matt. 10:36-38

Morning Meditations 2/26/2015

Matthew 9:36-38, "But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest."

The sight of the multitudes without God will bring one to his knees. The nearest thing that we can know is what God reveals to us in His Word. It is impossible for us to imagine the sufferings of Christ as He took on Himself the full penalty of sins of mankind. We might in some way try to relate the sufferings of Jesus if we included the mere pain and the awful agony upon His Holy person, who never had, at this point, the separation from the father. Hebrews 5:8 says, that, "Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;"

1. How could a thrice holy God suffer? Is it possible for God to suffer? We are told here that, "Though he were a Son, yet learned He by the things which he suffered."

2. Why would a thrice holy God suffer? It was because He knows the intensity of pain that eternal judgment world bring. Add to that the duration, despair, and the utter hopeless condition from which one will never escape.

3. Why would Jesus suffer? Because He came to provide for us a way out of this dilemma. When Jesus knew that they did not have to suffer, that He had made provision for their final and eternal salvation, then to see them snarl at Him like a dog, spit upon Him, pulled the hair from His face and joined the mob that said that He was guilty of death. That would be the ultimate suffering His Holy Soul would endure.

4. Another thing is the statement: "yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered." This would not be a mystery if He were only man. But Jesus is God. For God to suffer in Christ until He reached the burning heat of sins consequences, it a marvel indeed.

The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. The laborers have always been few. Only a few see the extreme suffering in which the unsaved will make their eternal home. Jeremiah speaks of this. Jeremiah 29:19, "Because they have not hearkened to my words, saith the LORD, which I sent unto them by my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them; but ye would not hear, saith the LORD."

Jesus loves the World. He gave Himself for the sins of the world that all might be saved. Jesus can save the most wicked sinner. The only thing that stands between them and salvation is their unwillingness to repent and receive the gospel.

The sheer knowledge of man's unconditional and hopeless condition broke His holy nature to see the impotence of man to perform the quality of righteous that God required. Jesus came to pay the price, and He did. He came to demonstrate His love for us and He succeeded in that. Now it is the move of mankind to receive this message and know experientially the Love of God .

This leaves us with the task of world evangelism. Every saved person has the responsibility to contribute to the salvation of souls..

May The Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
