A SPIRITUAL RESURRECTION
Eph 2:1
Morning Meditation 2/23/2013
Ephesians 2:1, "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;"
THEIR PAST CONDITION
“Who were dead in trespasses and sins.” This is the condition of every unsaved person in the world. This is a state of separation. Every dead person is cut off from the source of eternal life. He was born in sin and in need of a savior. Psalms 51:5, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."
The dead spiritually are insensible concerning their need. They are not alarmed by anything said or done to bring them to salvation. It takes the illumination of the Holy Spirit to make them see their need. John 6:44, "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day."
They are in a state of helplessness. They are in the kingdom of Satan and don’t know it. John 8:44, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
THEIR PRESENT ENJOYMENT
“You hath He quickened” The word quickened means to make alive. It is a resurrection word. Life is the only remedy for death. God’s method in saving man is the New Birth. Man is literally born anew into the kingdom of God.
This is an impartation of life. It is the imparting of a new life by the direct energy of the Spirit of God. It is the gift of God. Romans 6:23, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
It is a restoration of life. Adam lost that life when he sinned in the Garden of Eden. All Adam’s descendants inherit the result of Adam’s sin. Romans 5:12, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"
Salvation restores the life we lost in Adam. The way that resurrection to life takes place is through the preaching of the gospel. Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."
The gospel of Christ is defined in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"
This is the simple message of salvation. There is nothing complicated about this wonderful message. It is so simple that men don’t believe it. Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Man wants to offer Cain’s offering, i.e., the fruit of his own good works. But God’s plan of salvation is not of works lest any man should boast.
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
In Christ
