ELIEZER – A TYPE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Gen 24:1-5
Morning Meditation 1/2/2013
Genesis 24:1-5, "And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh: And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell: But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac. And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?" Genesis 24:8, "And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again."
ELIEZER OR THE SPIRIT’S MISSION
Eliezer is a perfect type of the Holy Spirit. Abraham chose him to get a bride for his son Isaac.
1. He had authority in the house. He looked after the domestic affairs of Abraham. The Holy Spirit is One with the Father and the Son.
2. He was sent by the Father. John 14:26, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."
3. He was sent in the name of the Son: Verse 26 “Whom the Father will send in my name.”
4. He did not speak of himself: John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."
5. He revealed the things of Isaac: Genesis 24:53, "And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things." John 16:14, "He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you."
6. He witnesses for his master: Genesis 24:35, "And the LORD hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and menservants, and maidservants, and camels, and asses."
7. He guides all the way home: Genesis 24:61, "And Rebekah arose, and her damsels, and they rode upon the camels, and followed the man: and the servant took Rebekah, and went his way."
8. Genesis 24:64-65, "And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel. For she had said unto the servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to meet us? And the servant had said, It is my master: therefore she took a vail, and covered herself."
The Holy Spirit will guide us all the way home. What a day that will be when we are gathered to Him in the rapture. The Bride will forever be with the bridegroom.
2 Timothy 4:8, "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
In Christ
