THE POWER OF THE WORD OF GOD

Heb 4:12

Morning Meditation

Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

IT IS DIVINE IN its ORIGIN

It is the word of God. It is not the word of men. The men who wrote the word of God were instruments in God’s hands but they did not come up with the words. 2 Peter 1:21 says, "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

Holy men of god “spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” The word “moved” means “to carry.” The Holy Spirit carried them along as they wrote the Word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." The word “inspiration” means breathed. God breathed in the word of God and man exhaled the word with the sacred pen.

The word of God is divine in its origin: 1 Thessalonians 2:13, "For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe."

IT IS LIVING IN ITS NATURE

It is the word by which we are born again: 1 Peter 1:23, "Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever."

There is no new birth apart from the word of God. Ephesians 2:1 says, "And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;" The word “quickened” means to make alive. The word of God makes a spiritually dead person alive in Christ.

Have you experienced the New Birth? If you have then the Word of God affected that experience. The Bible is a living Book. It gives life to those who trust its truths.

IT IS CONVICTING IN ITS POWER

Hebrews 4:12, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

It not only convicts the lost sinner of his need of salvation it exposes the saved when they wander for the path of holiness. It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Luke 4:4, "And Jesus answered him, saying, it is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”

THE WORD OF GOD IS PRESERVED

We have the Word of God today. The King James Version is the preserved Word of God for the English speaking people. Psalms 12:6-8, "The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them, O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever. The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted."
