THE GOSPEL OF MOSES

Exodus 6:1-8

Morning Meditation 4/24/2015

"Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land. And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD."

The time of Israel’s deliverance was at hand. Moses is sent to his brethren with a message from the Lord. He had a glorious Gospel to preach, a full orbed sun of hope for the wretched, helpless, bond-slaves. A magnificent picture of the Gospel of Christ made infallibly sure by the promise of Jehovah. In these glad tidings of salvation by Moses, there was—

REST FROM THEIR BURDENS

The LORD said through Moses, “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians” (vs 6). Rest was needed. Making bricks without straw was a hard and constant task. In the service of sin there is no rest. The Gospel of God, which comes to us through Jesus Christ, offers relief from the burden of sin and guilt, “Come unto Me, and I will give you rest” (Matt. 11:28). Rest in His forgiving love.

Rest is the result of the burden being lifted by the Lord Jesus. There is nothing that thrills me more that to see the burden lifted through faith in the gospel of Christ. It is as sudden as salvation. One comes forward during the invitation, goes to the altar to pray, calls on the Lord for salvation, gets up from the altar a new born babe in Christ. You can see the peace that comes suddenly to the believer in Christ. What a joy, what burdens lifted, what rest from the burden of coming judgement is evident in the face of the one just saved by faith. Next, we see in our text the—

DELIVERANCE FROM THE POWER OF THE ENEMY

Verse 6 says, “I will rid you out of their bondage.” There is no other escape from the power of sin and Satan but through the intervention of almighty power and grace.

Colossians 1:13, "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" The word “delivered” translates “rhuomai” and means, “to draw to one’s self, to rescue, to deliver.” The words, “hath delivered” is an aorist tense verb and speaks of a point of time. If you are saved there is a point of time to which you can go and say, “this is where I was saved.” This verb is also passive voice which means the subject is acted upon. In other words this deliverance is not a “self deliverance.” When we are saved it is a direct touch from God totally unmerited but graciously given. Next we see—

REDEMPTION WITH GREAT JUDGEMENTS

Verse 6 says, “I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments.” The first born must die before there is deliverance. It would have been an experience to remember to have been there and heard the cry of those who were helpless against the strong arm of God. God’s judgement upon the first-born caused Pharaoh to permit the Jews to leave Egypt. Next we see—

GOD’S CLAIM OF HIS OWN

Verse 7 says, “I will take you to Me for a people.” This is the LORD’S claim. He chose Abraham to establish a nation that He could call His own. He didn’t do it because they deserved it. Malachi 1:7, "Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible."

Malachi 1:8, "And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts."

The believer belongs to God: 1 Corinthians 6:19, "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?" Next we see—

THE PROMISE OF CONTINUED GUIDANCE

Verse 8 says, “I will bring you in unto the land.” Israel did not have to know the way, God knew the way and promised to “bring you in unto the land.” The Lord has also promised us guidance. We need it daily and we will get it. Amen!!!
