GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US IN THREE WAYS
Psalms 62:11
Morning Meditation 5/9/2014
"God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God."
What awesome power there is in God's spoken Word. I want to mention three ways in which God speaks to us.
HE HAS SPOKEN TO US IN THE WORKS OF CREATION
Hebrews 11:3, "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear."
When man begins to speculate on creation, and does it from a scientific standpoint, he comes out of that class room a fool. Human rationalism will always do that. The simple reason is that the earth's origin cannot be discovered by science. There was no scientist there when it happened.
Our text says, "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God." Faith is a non meritorious capacity that God has given us so that we can believe what He says. He says Psalms 33:6, "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth." Psalms 33:9, "For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast." Now to the scientific mind this is impossible. But to the Christian, it is understood by faith. We have a God who cannot lie and He said He did it.
Psalms 19:1-6, "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof."
Romans 1:20, "For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"
GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US BY HIS SON
Hebrews 1:1-2, "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"
1. First God identifies Himself. "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past,.." emphasizes the fact that He has spoken. The heavens have not been silent. When one is challenged to believe in Christ as a personal Saviour, he is not asked to believe in an imaginary being. God has spoken "at sundry times and divers manners."
2. Second, God spoke through human instruments, i.e., "spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets." These prophets prefaced their message by "thus saith the Lord."
3. The words "hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son," reveal the last Word God has spoken. It is "in these last days" that He has spoken, and it is His final Word. If men reject this message from God through the Son, there is no hope for them but sure and final judgment.
4. He goes on to describe the Son: "whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made he worlds." The Son has been appointed heir of all things. Eternity is the inheritance of Christ.
5. The words, "by whom also he made the worlds," definitely identifies Christ as the Creator. Romans 11:36 , "For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen."
GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US IN HIS WRITTEN WORD
"Thou hast magnified Thy Word above all Thy name." --Psa. 138:2. I would like to suggest that Satan has made an all out attack on the Bible. He has done it by flooding the market with easy reading Bibles. In all the modern translations that I know of do not mind changing the words of Scripture even when the word they choose is not even close to the meaning of the original text.
The best translation of the Bible is the King James Translation. It has stood the test of time and is a translation from the right original texts. Remember this, the translation you read from can be no better than the text from which it is translated.
The Bible is the written Word of God.. It is in this Book that God speaks to His people.
Great God, with wonder and with praise
On all Thy works I look;
But still Thy wisdom, power, and grace
Shine brightest in Thy Book.
Thy stars, that in their courses roll,
Have much instruction given;
But Thy good Word informs my soul
How I may come to where you are.
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
In Christ
