Dangerous Suppositions

8/8/13

Luke 2:44 says, "But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance."

Jesus was lost to His parents but not to God. Joseph and Mary did what normal parents do. They had been to the Temple to worship and were returning home. After a days journey Luke 2:42-49, "And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?"

It is a danger to suppose that Jesus is with you when He is not. I think a lot of churches are in a fix today. They are too filled with pride to bow before God and seek His answer to the situation they had gotten themselves into.

This happened in the case of the Laodicean church. Read the Scripture at this point. See how His coming at that time was unacceptable. They had their jobs and were doing good for themselves. They did not want their present life and prosperity crushed under the heel of Rome. However, deliverance lay before them in God's time. There is much confusion to those who believe in the imminent return of Christ for His people. We need not be confused. It is an event that looms into our immediate future and. God never goes back on His word. It will take place. When we see these things take place Jesus says, "Look up your redemption draweth nigh." This is as close to giving a date of His return as is possible.

Matthew 25:13, "Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh." Then in Matthew 24:36 Jesus says, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only."

Just remember He is coming just as He said He would. The time seems right today. But only a foolish person would set a date. God has reserved the time and it is fixed. This means that it is none of our business. Our business is to make ourselves available to Him at His bidding, to both live out the Gospel and to proclaim it, until He comes.

SUPPOSING CHRIST TO BE SOMEONE THAT HE IS NOT

John 20:15, "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away."

Our Lords message to those who heard Him was/is:

1. "Ye must be born again."

2. "Except ye repent" are the words of Christ.

3. "Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest."

4. "I will come again." These truths still stand and woe to the man who chooses to ignore them.

The Lord has promised and He has never broken a promise. He is come to rescue us from the wrath to come.

May the Lord bless these word to our heats.

In Christ
