GRACE SUFFICIENT FOR EVERY NEED

2 Cor. 9:8

Morning Meditation 3/29/2013

"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:"

Paul is making a revelation and a promise to the Christians in Corinth. He first reminds them of God's power. The word "able" translates, "dunatos" and it means, "able, powerful mighty strong." In fact there is no limit to God's power. God's power cannot be measured simply because there is no way to measure infinity. Paul headed off those who might object to appealing to God for something needed. So, first he makes it known that God is able to match every need by His awesome power.

The second thing in the text Paul reveals what God is able to do. He is "Able to make all grace abound toward you." Now this is a principle that will work over and over again. He is speaking to them about the matter of giving. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 says, "But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver."

There are always Christians who have needs. It is a fact that we cannot supply all the world's needs. However God can. It is as James says, James 4:1-3, "From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."

James gives the reason why the Christians to whom he is writing do not get their needs supplied. It is not because God is unable. It is because they are fighting among themselves. They lust for what they are asking and God does not answer to lust but to faith. Then he says to some of them, "yet he have not, because ye ask not." There were some to whom James writes who were not asking. Paul is telling them if they want or need something they need to ask.

Grace abounding toward you is a means of supply. Why grace? Because we are unworthy and none of us merit God's answer. If we wait to pray for God to supply our need until we are worthy, we will never get an answer. Paul is teaching that we can get our needs supplied even though we do not deserve. God works with an unworthy people.

Next he says, "that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things," is a declaration of God's supply. God is able and God will supply all of our needs. The words "all sufficiency translate "autarkeia," and means, "a perfect condition of life in which no aid or support is needed." The words "may abound to every good work," give the outcome of the Christian who lives by the truth of which Paul speaks. Now let's summarize in closing:

1. We must count on the power of God by faith. Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

2. We must "sow bountifully" if we want to reap bountifully.

3. We must recognize that this is a matter of the heart. Verse 7 says, "Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give."

4. We must examine our motives. We are not to give grudgingly or of necessity.

5. When we have a little fear that we might wind up giving until we run short, Paul says, "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."

May the Lord open our eyes to see that God has not forgotten who and where we are and will keep His promise just as He says in these verses.

May He bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
