A THREEFOLD PROVISION
Psa 104:15
Morning Meditation 3/25/2013
Psalms 104:15, "And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, and oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengtheneth man's heart."
God provides for His Children. We see in this verse a three-fold provision.
WE SEE BREAD TO STRENGTHEN
The believer in Jesus needs nourishment in his spiritual life just like his physical body needs nourishment for his physical life. This is a type of the Word of God. The word of God is bread for our spiritual hunger and water for our spiritual thirst.
Jesus told the woman at Jacob’s well: John 4:13-14, "Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
Jesus said in John 6:35, "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."
Jesus is the bread to strengthen the spiritual life.
WE SEE OIL TO ILLUMINATE
Oil is a type of the Holy Spirit; He illuminates the Word as we feast on it for daily enlightenment. 1 John 2:27, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him."
John 16:13-14, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you." The Holy Spirit illuminates our daily walk. The world does not have this illumination.
WE SEE THE WINE TO GLADDEN
Wine is a type of the joy in the Christian life. John 16:24, "Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full."
The Lord wants a joyful people. Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."
John 15:11, "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."
We have bread to strengthen, oil to illuminate and wine to gladden.
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
In Christ
