SCRIPTURAL REPENTANCE
Mark 6:12
Morning Meditation 3/1/2013
Mark 6:12, "And they went out, and preached that men should repent."
THE DEFINITION OF REPENTANCE
The word repent is metanoeo and means to change one’s mind. Man is born with the wrong mind set. Adam passed a rebellious nature to us hereditarily. We are born with an old sin nature that is in opposition to God and His Word.
REPENTANCE IS NECESSARY TO SALVATION
"And they went out, and preached that men should repent." Repent of what? What does man need to change his mind about? He needs to change his mind about sin. Many say, “I have not sinned. What do I need to repent of.” You need to accept what the Bible says about sin.
Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"
Romans 3:10-12, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one."
Until person is willing to accept what the Bible says about sin, there is no hope for him. Jesus came into the world to save sinners. You must face the fact that you were born wrong. It is not a pretty picture. Until you are willing to accept what God says about you, you are not a candidate for salvation.
IT IS EITHER TURN OR BURN
Luke 13:2-5, "And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
To perish is to go to hell when you die. The rich man died and in hell he lifted up his eyes being in torment. To die unsaved is to fix one’s destiny forever. Repentance must take place here. There is no place of repentance after one dies.
GOD LOVES THE WORLD AND IS READY TO SAVE THE REPENTANT SINNER
John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
God is not willing that any should perish. 2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
THERE IS JOY IN HEAVEN OVER EVERY SINNER WHO REPENTS
Luke 15:10, "Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."
Jesus came into the world to die for lost sinners. And when one trusts Him as his personal Saviour there is joy in the presence of the angels in heaven.
Matthew 11:28-29, "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
Romans 10:9, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
