THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER
Acts 1:4
Morning Meditation 1/21/2013
Jesus Christ is the gift of God to the world. The Holy Spirit is the gift of the Father to the Son. Both gifts should be thankfully accepted and equally enjoyed.
WHAT THIS PROMISE IS
It is the promise of an INDWELLER John 14:16-17, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." It is the promise of a Comforter. John 16:7, "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you." The word “Comforter” is defined by Strong as “summoned, called to one's side, esp. called to one's aid one who pleads another's cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an advocate.” It is a blessing to know that we have the Holy Spirit at our side to intercede for us as an Advocate.
It is the promise of a Witness. Hebrews 10:15, "Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before," The word “witness” is the translation of a word from which we get our word “witness.”
What are the conditions of receiving the promise
Believing is the condition to receiving the Promise. Every thing we do is activated by faith in the spiritual realm. The kingdom of God is seen in the lives of saved people who are living by faith in the unseen realm.
The Promise was not made to the world but only those who have been born again.
WAITING is encouraged in the Psalms. Psalms 27:14, "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Waiting takes patience. Patience is trial. We want to get what we are asking for right now. Many times God says wait.
THE RESULTS WHICH FOLLOW
Power to will according to God’s mind. Philippians 2:13, "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure." “To will and to do” are the key words in this verse. “To will” appeals to the will. Some do not believe that man can exercise his will. The Bible still says “Whosoever will” may come. “To do” appeals to the work. God saved us to work. Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
POWER TO WALK ACCORDING TO GOD’S WAY
Ezekiel 36:27, "And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them."
Romans 6:4, "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
1 Peter 2:21, "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
