LET THE PEACE OF GOD RULE IN YOUR HEART

Col 3:15

Morning Meditation 12/16/2012

Colossians 3:15, "And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

THE UMPIRE IN YOUR HEART

The word “rule” is a word that translates a word that means umpire. It is in the present tense and imperative mood. The present tense is a continuous tense and the imperative mood is a command.

Let the peace of God act as umpire continually in your heart. This is walking with God at its best.

The umpire calls the shots in this case. The sphere of his operation is the regenerated heart.

Romans 5:1, "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:"

IT IS AN ACT OF THE WILL

“Let the peace of God” is something we decide to do. The word “peace” translates eirene and is the word that means tranquility.

The disciples were on a storm tossed sea and Jesus was asleep in the back of the ship. The disciples woke Jesus up and said in Matthew 8:25-26, "And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm." Jesus brought peace to the troubled waters.

Jesus wants us to have peace in our lives. But we must listen to the umpire. We must “Let the peace of God rule in our hearts.”

WE ARE TO SEEK HIS WILL IN HIS WORD

Colossians 3:16, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

The word of God is powerful. It is sharper than a two edged sword. Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

It is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. This is the reason that the word of God makes people feel uncomfortable when it’s being read or preached.

The word of God is the Christians way book. It is food for the soul.

May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.

In Christ
