SEEK THOSE THINGS WHICH ARE ABOVE

Col 3:1-2

Morning Meditation

Colossians 3:1-2, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth."

What are the things which are above?

HIS PEACE

John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

This peace is given and does not depend on the circumstances. I have had experiences in my ministry which were disturbing yet the Lord gave me perfect peace during that time. I know a missionary who was surrounded by cannibals with drawn swords ready to kill him. He said he had perfect peace. His peace is not dependent on the circumstances. The Lord invites us to seek those things which are above. Peace is one of those things.

HIS GUIDANCE

John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."

We are promised guidance and this comes from above. Guidance is something all of us want. We need His guidance concerning His will for our lives. We need His guidance in our study of the Scriptures. We are promised guidance: “…When he the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth…” Is there a passage of Scripture that you have trouble with? Get on your knees and seek His guidance. He will guide you into all truth.

HIS PRESENCE

John 14:23, "Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him."

This is a great promise. When you feel down and He seems to be far away, love the Lord and pray. He will draw nigh to you. James 4:8, "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." Hebrews 7:19, "For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God."

There is no greater experience than to have the Lord draw nigh to you.

HIS PROMISES

2 Pet 1:4 says, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Peter calls these promises “exceeding great and precious promises.” The Bible is full of promises that are available to the believer who “seeks those things which are above.” We are partakers of the divine nature through these promises. They are spiritual in nature. These promises are obtained by faith. Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

HIS JOY

John 15:11, "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

Again this joy is not dependent on circumstances. It is “His joy.” 1 Peter 1:8, "Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:"

HIS COMFORT

John 16:7, "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you."

The comforter is the Holy Spirit and is sent to comfort us in trials and sorrow. I have seen Him work in heart breaking situations. He brings great comfort to the one who seeks those thing which are above. Are down today? Seek those things which are above.
