THE VIRGIN BIRTH OF CHRIST
Isa 7:14; Matt 1:22-23
Morning Meditation 12/1/2015
Isaiah 7:14, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."
Matthew 1:22-23, "Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
We have here the prophesy of Isaiah and the New Testament commentary of this prophecy.
Why was the virgin birth necessary? Man is by nature a sinner and as such could not be the sinless Lamb to take away the sin of the world. Man inherits his sin nature by natural birth. Romans 5:12 brings this out, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:" Sin is passed down hereditarily. Man inherits an old sin nature. Psalms 51:5, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."
The virgin birth was necessary for Christ to be sinless in His birth in order for Him to be sinless in His life. He had to be sinless in His life in order to be the sinless substitute for the sins of the world.
Jesus claimed to be sinless in His life. John 8:45-46, "And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?"
The Bible declares Him to be sinless. 1 Peter 3:18, "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:" Hebrews 4:15, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 9:28, "So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."
Jesus always did the will of God; John 8:29, “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.”
Can any human being make this claim? The answer to that question is absolutely not. Jesus came to redeem us and in order to do that He had to offer Himself as the sinless Lamb that taketh away the sin of the world. John 1:29, "The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.."
Belief in the virgin birth is necessary to salvation. If Jesus were not born of virgin He could not have been the Saviour of the world. He died to save us.. He is our substitute.
Romans 3:21-26, "But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus."
May the Lord bless these words to our hearts.
